Bergamot (Citrus bergamia, Risso) grows exclusively in the province of Reggio Calabria (Southern Italy). The part interested in the original cultivation of this territory lies on the Ionian Sea, only 120 kilometers of coast, has one of the highest values of heliophany in Italy and is protected, from the north winds, by the mountain massif of Aspromonte.
Most of the bergamot cultivation area is located between Reggio Calabria (south west) and Monasterace (east) in a coastal strip up to 12 km from the coast.

Bergamot fruit is produced between November and March.
The processed “juice” is shown to lower high cholesterol.
